Patrick Hollett
I'm Patrick Hollett, a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in chemistry with a possible minor in physics, and an intention to teach high school chemistry. Before attending college I graduated from Slinger High School, which is just under a two-hour drive from Madison. I always enjoyed math and science courses and in high school, chemistry quickly became my favorite subject. Since I've arrived at UW-Madison, I have taken General, Analytical, and Organic Chemistry courses, and I look forward to the Chemistry courses to come. I hope to pass on my passion for knowledge to others. When I'm not studying or in labs for my classes, I am also involved in volunteer and student activities through St. Paul's Catholic Center, and I plan to continue to search for future volunteer opportunities.

Theresa Filarsky
Early in my undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I became fascinated by the integral connection between chemistry and biology’Äîthat chemical interactions are some of the building blocks used to explain the "why" behind biological structures and interactions. Interest in exploring the integration between chemistry and the other branches of science allowed me to see applications for chemistry where I had previously thought there were none. I began to appreciate my college professors who encouraged me to ask "why" and explore scientific questions in light of my entire breadth of scientific knowledge. In addition, I began to see that I truly enjoyed learning why an answer was correct, even more than getting the correct answer itself. I only wish that someone had encouraged me to see how interesting and applicable chemistry is while I was in high school.
