Jenny Chauvin
I am a senior at Louisiana State University, which I have attended for two years. I previously attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando for my freshman year. I am originally from Metairie, Louisiana and went to high school in New Orleans. I am currently majoring in Chemistry with a concentration in secondary education planning to graduate May 2010. Chemistry has always been a passion of mine in schooling. Taking two classes in high school opened my eyes to the world of chemistry which I so dearly adore.

Sara Cheramie
I am a senior at Louisiana State University majoring in Chemistry with a concentration in Secondary Education. I plan to graduate in May 2008. Before coming to Baton Rouge, I lived in Lafayette where I graduated from Lafayette High School with a 4.0 GPA. While in Lafayette, my life revolved around my gifted class schedule and dance lessons. Because of this award, I will not be as financially strained during my semester of student teaching this coming spring. This will also allow me to start getting materials together for my own chemistry classroom. Chemistry has always been a love of mine since my two classes during high school. This subject comes naturally to me, and I await the challenge of teaching it to all of my future students.
After graduating from LSU, I plan on teaching high school chemistry in the Lafayette area. Upon teaching for a few years, I would love the opportunity to do some chemistry research, beyond my classroom, so that I would have more life experience to bring to it. I want to dispel the idea that chemistry is scary. I want to make chemistry interactive and fun for all my students.

Lindsey Jones
Lindsey Jones was born in 1987 in Baton Rouge, LA. She is currently a junior at LSU majoring in Chemistry-Secondary Ed. Lindsey plans to continue her education in graduate school pursuing a master's in school psychology. Her interest in chemistry was influenced by many people. Lindsey's mother is a chemist who would often present demonstrations in her science classrooms. She also had a phenomenal chemistry teacher in high school that really brought chemistry to life in the classroom. This legacy continued once she entered college. Her professors for chemistry have all been great in relaying the subject material and helping her outside of the classroom. Lindsey worked in one of the cancer research labs at the LSU-School of Veterinarian Medicine and for a clinical research project at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. She hopes to bring these experiences with her into the classroom as tools to cultivate interests in the sciences among her future students.
I want to teach chemistry because I love the subject. I had a wonderful chemistry teacher and I attribute my success in understanding chemistry to him. He was very passionate about teaching chemistry and that was seen daily in the classroom. I hope that my passion for chemistry will also affect students in the way that he affected me. I have had a taste of teaching through tutoring peers. I really enjoy helping others understand concepts and giving tips on how to think about problems, not just giving answers. I believe that understanding the nature of science will not only help students excel in the field of science but in everyday life. The critical thinking skills used for science can be applied to process information and make wise decisions on a daily basis. I strive to be the person to teach these useful skills while instilling an understanding of chemistry and passion for science.
